On every first Sunday of every month, the Swedish Cultural Center hosts a Swedish Pancake Breakfast. For $7, you get 2 tickets: one to get 3 Swedish Pancakes, a slice of ham, and orange juice or coffee, the other ticket gets you a second round... if necessary. Brian told us about these pancakes a while back. We tried to go last month, but by the time we left to go, the breakfast was over. So we decided to make sure that we would make it this month. Once there, you're greeted by a humble old man dressed in traditional Swedish clothing. You pay for your breakfast tickets and head towards the food. All the while, there's a live band playing Swedish folk songs, and people dancing around. The pancakes themselves are quite different from the ordinary pancakes you would get at Ihop or Dennys. They're like a giant crepe, rolled up. Nonetheless, an entirely different taste than the traditional American pancake. You get a choice of strawberries or lingonberries. Now what the heck is a lingonberry? Well, I'm not really quite sure how to explain it, other than it's kind of tart and sour, but tastes like a strawberry-grape hybrid. The ham itself wasn't spectacular, but it was good to have on the side. So we ate, and didn't really expect 3 pancakes to be filling...why else would they give you a seconds ticket? But no, none of us could handle the portions of the first round. I'll be back in another 31 days for one of the best pancakes I've ever had.
